Establishing a new alliance

Since July 2004, we have been laying the foundation for an independent, statewide alliance to broaden the base of awareness of and support for reproductive health as a critical component of women’s health in Wisconsin.

Reason to Act: Access to quality women’s health is being threatened by an anti reproductive health Legislature, a disengaged public, and a few well organized, well funded opposition groups currently controlling the public debate.

What to Do: Broaden the base of awareness of and support for reproductive health care information and access in Wisconsin. Become a catalyst for reclaiming the public debate and gain earned media coverage.

How to Do It: Create and empower a broad alliance of organizational voices from around the state to raise awareness, share resources and information, and increase advocacy efforts to protect women’s health.

In the early months of this effort, staff began to compile an extensive list of organizations and individuals likely to be interested in the Alliance or whose involvement could be critical to its success. Non-traditional partners were recruited to participate in the “vision building” listening sessions to ensure that their perspectives were incorporated in the Alliance’s development.
